The Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PICU) is located in the 8 CHC building, next to the pediatric inpatient unit.We have 5 beds with PICU trained nurses caring for the patients. We have a dedicated social worker, and a child life specialist. Our residents rotate for a month in the PICU in the third year of their training.
We treat a variety of critically sick patients from birth upto 21 years – status asthmaticus, severe bronchiolitis, acute chest syndrome, diabetic ketoacidosis, to name a few. We do high flow nasal oxygen, BiPAP and central lines. The pediatric floor serves as a step down unit for our improving patients.
Our residents are trained well to manage critically sick children when they complete their residency.
