The pediatric hospitalist division has two full time hospitalists and three part time hospitalists. The pediatric inpatient unit in located in the 8th floor of the CHC building. We provide care for hospitalized children from birth to 21 years. We manage simple to complicated pediatric medical conditions and co-manage  pediatric surgery, adolescent gynecology ,orthopedic and ENT conditions. The primary care provider of the admitted child is notified on admission and at discharge. We have teaching during rounds every day, at all levels, to teach not only medicine but also emphasize on collaborative approach and communication skills. Family centered rounds with residents, medical students, nurses, social worker and child life specialists are conducted every day to give the best patient care experience. We involve the family members in the team for shared decision making. We have a multidisciplinary approach to the patient’s illness, addressing the social, financial, and emotional problems associated with hospitalizations. Other disciplines like the pharmacists, physiotherapists, speech – language pathologists and other pediatric medical sub-specialists also round and care for patients as needed.

There is a really spacious, beautiful and well equipped play room near the inpatient unit which the child life specialist manages to bring in children to play, do arts and craft or for simply to watch a movie.  The school education room located next to the inpatient unit has a NYC certified teacher to help children with their home work to make up for the lost school days while in the hospital. The ‘Red Nose Doctors’ from an outside organization visit the admitted children every Tuesday to play tricks and perform shows.

Our residents are trained to manage all pediatric medical conditions having the 360 degree approach to a child’s health and well-being.
